When to travel calendar
Range: the 12 months of November 2026–October 2027 / weather statistics from observations for 1996–2025 (30 years)
A calendar that colors every day for the next year by how comfortable it is and the main reason why, based on observations for 1996–2025 (30 years). Green is comfortable, reds are heat, blues are cold, and hatched gray marks days affected mainly by rain or sunshine; the darker the color, the more years that day had harsh conditions. Bands for holidays and long weekends and marks for rain or snow and typhoons are overlaid, so you can look for comfortable weekdays that do not overlap with holidays. Lodging and travel prices tend to be set higher on holidays and long weekends (a general tendency based on the calendar).
These are statistics compiled from observations for 1996–2025 (30 years), not a weather forecast for any particular day. For the latest forecasts, see the JMA website.
How to read this calendar
- Cell color = how comfortable the day is and the main reason. Green is comfortable, reds are heat, blues are cold, and hatched gray is something other than temperature, such as rain or sunshine. The darker the color, the more years that day had harsh conditions
- Top-left dot = days with rain or snow in at least half of the years (the rainy and snowy seasons show up as stripes) / Top-right red dot = times of especially frequent typhoon approaches (Okinawa, Amami, and so on)
- Amber band at the bottom = days off (the darker, the longer the run of days off; holidays are in bold)
- Finding quiet picks = green cells without a band (comfortable weekdays). Touch a cell to see the reason and the values: the dry-day rate (the share of years with under 1 mm of precipitation on that date, smoothed over the days just before and after), temperature, and typhoons
The station data could not be loaded. Check your connection and choose again.
Quiet picks (Tokyo): Apr (21 days) / Nov (18 days) / May (18 days) are the months with the most green "Comfortable" weekdays (excluding Obon and the New Year holidays)
Cell colors are statistics that rate each day on 5 levels from observations of dry-day rate, sunshine, wind, and temperature for 1996–2025 (30 years), and the hue shows the factor that lowered the rating most (heat, cold, or rain, sunshine, and wind); uncolored cells do not have enough data ("Not enough data"). Rain and snow dots mark dates on which at least half of the years had daily rainfall of 1 mm or more, and typhoon dots mark dates with especially frequent typhoon approaches in the region (most recent 30 years). "Days off" is a calendar category based only on the pattern of holidays and weekends, and "quiet picks" combine these statistics with the calendar. All of these are past records, not observations of actual weather, crowds, or prices.

About comfort levels and main factors
Cell colors are statistics that rate each day on 5 levels from observations of dry-day rate, sunshine, wind, and temperature for 1996–2025 (30 years). The hue (reds for heat, blues for cold, hatched gray for factors other than temperature) is a qualitative guide to the factor that lowered the day's rating most; touch a cell to see the breakdown (frequent rain, little sunshine, or strong wind). The badge in each month's heading applies the same rule to the monthly average (the default station is Tokyo). Both are ratings of past records and say nothing about the weather or crowds on a given day. The values behind the ratings are on each monthly page and each station's page.
