The climate of Saga
The Saga Plain, spreading out at the head of the Ariake Sea, holds in inland-style heat. Over the 30 years of 1996–2025, the average August maximum in the city of Saga reaches 33.2°C, 13th from the top among all the stations covered on this site. The record high is 40.2°C on August 3, 2026, making it a place with a record in the 40°C range.
The high temperatures are not a one-time event. In 1994, it reached 39.6°C on July 16 and 39.3°C on the following day, the 17th, two days in a row in the 39°C range. Behind the 2026 record, these are the next highest values, suggesting that the pattern of heat pooling over the plain in midsummer has repeated since long ago.
The record low is -6.9°C on January 13, 1943, and the temperature also fell to -6.6°C on January 25, 2016. The average January minimum is 1.9°C. For rain, the daily rainfall record is 366.5 mm on June 25, 1953. The share of days with less than 1 mm of precipitation is 71.2% for the year, but fall to 59.3% in June and recover to 79.9% in October. The pattern is one of rain concentrated in the rainy season and a return to many sunny days in autumn.
Record values in this description are based on data collected as of September 2026, and the normal statistics on the 30 years 1996–2025.
