The climate of Ehime
Ehime Prefecture's normal values are much alike, yet its extremes diverge widely between north and south. On the 30-year average for 1996–2025, the average August maximum is 32.8°C at Matsuyama and 32.4°C at Uwajima, and the average January minimum 2.5°C at Matsuyama and 2.8°C at Uwajima, small differences in both cases. The record high, however, is 40.2°C at Uwajima, and this old date, July 22, 1927, makes it into 28th place from the top among all the stations covered on this site.
Matsuyama's record high is 37.8°C, set on August 3, 2026, a different level from the record set at Uwajima before World War II. Even so, its average August maximum ranks 23rd from the top among all the stations covered on this site, above the 41st of Uwajima. Matsuyama's winter cold is more severe, and -8.3°C on February 12, 1913, remains the lowest temperature among the stations covered here.
Heavy rain marked the same few days at both stations. Matsuyama observed 215.1 mm on July 23, 1943, and Uwajima 390.6 mm the next day, the 24th, the latter becoming the prefecture's daily rainfall record. At Uwajima, the share of days with less than 1 mm of precipitation is 69.3% for the year, falling to 55.9% in June, which shows it to be rainier than Matsuyama, at 72.7% for the year.
Record values in this description are based on data collected as of September 2026, and the normal statistics on the 30 years 1996–2025.

Annual mean temperature (1996–2025)
The yearly average of the daily mean temperature (the line is broken in years with many missing values). Observing conditions at Matsuyama changed on November 6, 2006; December 4, 2007; June 25, 2008; December 17, 2015 (for example, a relocation or new instruments), so the statistics may not be continuous across those dates.
The normals listed here are averages over the 30 years from 1991 to 2020. They are fixed values that stay the same until the next revision of the normals, and they show how warm or cold that month usually is in that area.
