Range of records by station

Each bar is one station: the left dot is its record low and the right dot its record high. The statistical period differs by station, depending on when observations began or the station moved. The dates are on each station's page.

The climate of Kagawa

In Kagawa Prefecture, every station has a similarly high number of sunny days. Over the 30 years of 1996–2025, the share of days with less than 1 mm of precipitation is 74.9% at Tadotsu, 74.8% at Uchinomi on Shodoshima, and 74.3% at Takamatsu, all within a range of 1 percentage point. The average January minimum is also 2.6°C at Tadotsu and 2.1°C at Uchinomi, a very small difference. The low rainfall of the Seto Inland Sea, between the Shikoku Mountains and the Chugoku Mountains, covers the whole prefecture.

What breaks that uniformity is the rare heavy rain. At Uchinomi, 790 mm of rain fell in a single day on September 11, 1976, which remains the prefecture's daily rainfall record. Takamatsu's highest is 210.5 mm on October 20, 2004, and Tadotsu's is 198.5 mm on September 28, 1983, so the jump when rain clouds catch on the island's steep terrain stands out.

In summer heat, Takamatsu stands out. Its average August maximum of 33.3°C ranks 10th from the top among all the stations covered on this site, and it observed 38.8°C on August 2, 2026, and 38.7°C the next day, the 3rd. Tadotsu's 32.9°C also ranks 19th. Winter, on the other hand, can turn severe: Takamatsu fell to -7.7°C on January 28, 1945.

Record values in this description are based on data collected as of September 2026, and the normal statistics on the 30 years 1996–2025.

Annual mean temperature (1996–2025)

The yearly average of the daily mean temperature (the line is broken in years with many missing values). Observing conditions at Takamatsu changed on December 4, 2007; June 25, 2008 (for example, a relocation or new instruments), so the statistics may not be continuous across those dates.

The normals listed here are averages over the 30 years from 1991 to 2020. They are fixed values that stay the same until the next revision of the normals, and they show how warm or cold that month usually is in that area.
