The climate of Hiroshima
Hiroshima Prefecture has records of both summer heat and heavy rain. The daily rainfall record among the stations covered here is 339.6 mm in the city of Hiroshima, set on September 11, 1926. Kure recorded 221.8 mm on September 17, 1945, and Fukuyama 187 mm on July 6, 2018, suggesting that the season of torrential rain stretches from early summer to autumn.
As for heat, on the 30-year average for 1996–2025 the city of Hiroshima and Fukuyama share an August maximum of 33°C, ranking 16th from the top among all the stations covered on this site. The record high is 38.7°C in the city of Hiroshima, a value that appeared on both August 16, 2024, and July 17, 1994. The record low is -9.2°C at Fukuyama, set by the cold wave of February 27, 1981.
Kure, deep in the embrace of the Seto Inland Sea, shows a different face. Its average August maximum is only 31.8°C, while the average minimum for the same month is a high 25.3°C. The average January minimum is 2.7°C, and the gap from the -0.1°C of Fukuyama translates directly into a milder winter. Its record high of 37.8°C is from August 20, 1948, followed by values from the summers of 1918 and 1953.
Record values in this description are based on data collected as of September 2026, and the normal statistics on the 30 years 1996–2025.

Annual mean temperature (1996–2025)
The yearly average of the daily mean temperature (the line is broken in years with many missing values). Observing conditions at Hiroshima changed on December 4, 2007; June 25, 2008 (for example, a relocation or new instruments), so the statistics may not be continuous across those dates.
The normals listed here are averages over the 30 years from 1991 to 2020. They are fixed values that stay the same until the next revision of the normals, and they show how warm or cold that month usually is in that area.
