The climate of Mie
When talking about Mie Prefecture, the first thing that comes up is the amount of rain. At Owase, on the east coast of the Kii Peninsula, 806 mm of rain fell on September 26, 1968, the prefecture's daily rainfall record. The annual share of days with less than 1 mm of precipitation is 66.8%, lower than the 71.9% of Tsu, and drops to 50.8% in September. While the other stations in the prefecture are wettest in June, Owase alone has its rainy season at the start of autumn.
At Kuwana, at the northern end of the prefecture, the heat records were concentrated into a single month. The record high is 40.8°C on July 24, 2026, and with 40.7°C on the 23rd and 40.6°C on the 25th, its top 3 highs all fall within these few days. The value ranks 16th from the top among all the stations covered on this site. Such temperatures were reached on low, flat land at an elevation of 3 m, at the mouths of the three Kiso rivers.
Move inland to Ueno and another side of the prefecture appears. The record low is -9.6°C, a value reached 3 times, on February 8, 1966, January 17, 1967, and January 29, 1970, ranking 97th from the bottom among all the stations covered on this site. The average January minimum is -0.6°C, 3°C apart from the 2.4°C of Tsu, which faces Ise Bay. The record high is 38.8°C on August 2, 1942, so as of August 2026 a summer from the war years still holds the top.
Record values in this description are based on data collected as of September 2026, and the normal statistics on the 30 years 1996–2025.

Annual mean temperature (1996–2025)
The yearly average of the daily mean temperature (the line is broken in years with many missing values). Observing conditions at Tsu changed on December 4, 2007; June 25, 2008; October 20, 2011 (for example, a relocation or new instruments), so the statistics may not be continuous across those dates.
The normals listed here are averages over the 30 years from 1991 to 2020. They are fixed values that stay the same until the next revision of the normals, and they show how warm or cold that month usually is in that area.
