The climate of Aichi

Summer in Aichi Prefecture runs high in its normal values, without waiting for a record-breaking day. On the 30-year average for 1996–2025, the August maximum is 33.5°C at Nagoya and 33.4°C at Toyota, ranking 6th and 8th from the top among all the stations covered on this site. Nagoya's temperature statistics began in July 1890, recording summers on the Nobi Plain since the Meiji era.

On the side of extremes, recent summers have pushed the past aside. Toyota's record high is 40.8°C on July 23, 2026, and with 40.1°C on the 21st and 40°C on the 25th of the same month, its top 3 highs all fall in the same month. This value ranks 16th from the top among all the stations covered on this site. Nagoya's record high is 40.3°C on August 3, 2018, followed by 40°C on August 31, 2025, notable as a record reached at the very end of summer.

At Irako, on the tip of the Atsumi Peninsula, the surrounding sea smooths out temperatures. The average January minimum is 2.9°C, 4°C apart from the -1.1°C of inland Toyota, and the record high is only 38.4°C, set on August 11, 2013. Rainfall is another matter: the daily rainfall record is 444 mm on June 2, 2023, the most in the prefecture. On September 11, 2000, Nagoya recorded 428 mm and Toyota 217 mm on the same day.

Record values in this description are based on data collected as of September 2026, and the normal statistics on the 30 years 1996–2025.

Annual mean temperature (1996–2025)

The yearly average of the daily mean temperature (the line is broken in years with many missing values). Observing conditions at Nagoya changed on December 4, 2007; June 25, 2008 (for example, a relocation or new instruments), so the statistics may not be continuous across those dates.

The normals listed here are averages over the 30 years from 1991 to 2020. They are fixed values that stay the same until the next revision of the normals, and they show how warm or cold that month usually is in that area.
