Each bar is one station: the left dot is its record low and the right dot its record high. The statistical period differs by station, depending on when observations began or the station moved. The dates are on each station's page.

The climate of Fukui

Summer in Fukui Prefecture stands out more for its high averages than for extreme single days. On the 30-year average for 1996–2025, the August maximum is 32.5°C in the city of Fukui and 32.2°C at Tsuruga, ranking 35th and 51st from the top among all the stations covered on this site. The record high among the stations covered here, on the other hand, is 38.6°C in the city of Fukui on July 19, 1942, followed by 38.5°C on August 20, 1922, both before the end of World War II, and 38.4°C on August 4, 2025, has now drawn close to them.

For the cold records, a single day marks the whole prefecture. On January 27, 1904, the city of Fukui observed -15.1°C and Tsuruga -10.9°C, and the city of Fukui's value is so low that it ranks 46th from the bottom among all the stations covered on this site. The -14.3°C of February 11, 1913, is also a record at the same station, showing that days of severe cold line up in the early years of long temperature statistics that began in January 1897.

At Koshino, which faces the sea directly, the seasonal swing itself is smaller. The average January minimum is 2.9°C, 2.4°C higher than the 0.5°C of the city of Fukui, further inland, and the August maximum is 31.1°C, the lowest among the stations covered here. The month when the share of days with less than 1 mm of precipitation is lowest also differs by station: at Koshino it drops to 24.1% in December, while at Tsuruga, facing Wakasa Bay, it goes no lower than 31%, in January.

Record values in this description are based on data collected as of September 2026, and the normal statistics on the 30 years 1996–2025.

Annual mean temperature (1996–2025)

The yearly average of the daily mean temperature (the line is broken in years with many missing values). Observing conditions at Fukui changed on December 4, 2007; June 25, 2008 (for example, a relocation or new instruments), so the statistics may not be continuous across those dates.

The normals listed here are averages over the 30 years from 1991 to 2020. They are fixed values that stay the same until the next revision of the normals, and they show how warm or cold that month usually is in that area.
