Each bar is one station: the left dot is its record low and the right dot its record high. The statistical period differs by station, depending on when observations began or the station moved. The dates are on each station's page.
The climate of Fukushima
Fukushima Prefecture has 3 areas lined up from west to east, Aizu, Nakadori, and Hamadori, each with its own climate. The hottest in summer is inland Aizu: on the 30-year average for 1996–2025, the August maximum is 31.3°C at Wakamatsu and 28.3°C at Onahama on the Pacific coast, a spread of 3°C within the prefecture. The record high among the stations covered here is 39.2°C in the city of Fukushima in Nakadori, set on July 26, 2025. The record low among them, -18.5°C, is also in the city of Fukushima, dating back to February 4, 1891.
In winter the ranking of the areas flips. The average January minimum is -3.5°C at Wakamatsu and -0.2°C at Onahama, and Onahama's average January maximum reaches 8.7°C. The skies differ in the same direction: the share of days with less than 1 mm of precipitation reaches 86.3% at Onahama in January, while at Wakamatsu it falls to 46.8% in December. This is the contrast between Aizu, where snow clouds cross the Echigo Mountains, and Hamadori, which keeps its sunshine with the mountains at its back.
Add elevation and another layer of change appears. Shirakawa, at an elevation of 355 m, has an average August maximum of 29.1°C and a record high of 36°C, placing it on the modest side of the prefecture's heat. Its daily rainfall record, however, is 368.5 mm, the most among the stations covered here, observed on October 12, 2019, when the city of Fukushima also recorded 233.5 mm. A position where moist autumn air from the south is lifted onto the Abukuma heights produced that day.
Record values in this description are based on data collected as of September 2026, and the normal statistics on the 30 years 1996–2025.
Monthly normals for Fukushima (Fukushima)
The normals for Fukushima represent the stations in Fukushima. Normals for the other stations are on each station's page.
Temperature (monthly normals)
The lines show monthly normals: the upper line is the monthly mean of the daily high and the lower line the monthly mean of the daily low, and the middle line is the monthly mean temperature. Touch the point for a month to read its values. Normals are the 1991–2020 average.

Annual mean temperature (1996–2025)
The yearly average of the daily mean temperature (the line is broken in years with many missing values). Observing conditions at Fukushima changed on December 4, 2007; June 25, 2008; March 18, 2021 (for example, a relocation or new instruments), so the statistics may not be continuous across those dates.
The normals listed here are averages over the 30 years from 1991 to 2020. They are fixed values that stay the same until the next revision of the normals, and they show how warm or cold that month usually is in that area.
